Two speakers take the stage to present the portrait of two sixteenth-century icons whose inextricably linked destinies were to result in the spilling of almost as much ink as blood. And so two actors of today play out the lives of two enemies of the past against the backdrop of a constantly changing world of plots, political conspiracies and extremes. Through a combination of lecture and video projection the audience is invited to take part in an island road movie, travelling through Scotland and England on a multilingual guided tour, passing en route through a gallery of portraits as weird as they are wonderful. As the two actors digress, so the scene shifts into the stranger and more personal realms of fantasy and daydream. In what is part historical inquiry and part poetic fable Barbara Sylvain and Lulu Béry follow the thread of this ambivalent relationship, touching lightly on power games and codes of communication, exploring the tenuous line between true and false, between the grandiose and the ridiculous. This kaleidoscopic drama, broadly inspired by Stefan Zweig’s Mary Stuart, duly shuffles the cards of power, identity and time, plunging the audience headlong into a right-royal burlesque tragedy.

...Loin de toute « britichophilie » ® exaspérante, Barbara et Lula osent être subtiles dans le grotesque et par
un regard, un sourire ou une moue démontrent qu’elles savent manier l’humour sauce Worcestershire avec
brio. Le rythme est particulièrement bien senti, chose dif?cile pour une conférence même ?ctive. Du chant
tragique à une forme dansée de l’incommunicabilité, le spectateur suit avidement le parcours qui lui est
proposé... Ce dernier contient de très belles innovations formelles et stylistiques (en particulier sur le plan
musical et chorégraphique)...Barbara Sylvain et de Lula Béry ont dé?nitivement visées juste, il y avait là un
territoire valant d’être exploré.
